The wedding dress is the centerpiece of all the decorative details of both the ceremony and reception. A bride should begin her wedding dress search very early in the planning process. While many brides have an idea of what their dream dress looks like, some may not have considered what styles suit her body type. Here are a few suggestions based on your body type:
Average – The A-Line gown flatters just about everyone, so it is a good starting point.
Petite – Princess silhouettes, strapless with long gloves, and empire gowns add height to your attire.
Tall – Flared, tiered or ball gown skirts complement long legs.
Plus-Size – Try a dropped torso with a basque waistline or a princess silhouette.
Small Bust – Strapless or sleeveless gowns flatter small-chested women. Intricate beading or lacework can add dimension.
Large Bust – Consider necklines that drip into a U- or V-shape or form a keyhole.
Other tips:
- Shop early in the morning on the weekend or on a weekday to avoid crowds and get the most personalized service.
- BRIDES magazine says, "Limit yourself to three stores. You'll be exposed to a range of different designers and salespeople without getting too overwhelmed."
- Avoid an audience and bring only your mother, sister or maid-of-honor.
- Bring some elements of your wedding day to help you and your MOH or MOB visualize the whole package:
o comfortable nude or white strapless bra
o shoes, with a similar height (heel) that you will wear on the big day
o clips or pins for your hair to show off the neckline if you’re going to rock the up-do when you say “I do”
o a camera, if you’re allowed, to take photos from various angles
